Local Leaders Hope Senator's Tour of Valley Drainage Projects Pushes for Extra Funding

MCALLEN – Local drainage problems are attracting the attention of top lawmakers in Washington, DC.
Back-to-back summer floods have cost taxpayers in the Rio Grande Valley millions of dollars.
On Monday, U.S. Senator John Cornyn took a tour of some of the Hidalgo County drainage projects, including the Raymondville drain, the Delta Region Water Management Project and all projects making their way east.
The projects have some funding approved, but local officials say they still need a lot more.
Hidalgo County commissioners presented the latest on the project in a roundtable forum with the senator.
