MCALLEN – The Department of Public Safety trooper who was shot while on duty is still hospitalized in stable but critical condition.
He’s been in the hospital for nearly two weeks since the shooting that occurred at the intersection of West Freddy Gonzalez and North 10th Street in McAllen.
A report from McAllen police details the night of the shooting and what led up to it.
Police say Victor Godinez disregarded a red light and hit another vehicle.
Moises Sanchez was the first law enforcement official to arrive on scene, according to a DPS spokesperson.
Sanchez began to look for the drivers and realized Godinez had fled – the man who later shot him.
