MCALLEN – A Rio Grande Valley school district is excelling overall, according to a state evaluation, but one of their schools is falling behind.

Every year the Texas Education Agency evaluates all the schools in the states. They get graded on an "A" through "F" scale.

Overall, McAllen Independent School District received the highest letter grade, but William Travis Middle School in McAllen, got a low grade on their preliminary report card.

McAllen ISD spokesman Mark May says the district has been planning a corrective plan since the summer to address this low grade.

This upcoming Monday, the plan will be presented to the school board, as required by state law.

May added parents and the public are invited on Monday when the plan is presented to the school board where parent comments will be accepted.
