Officials with the National Weather Service Offering Tips to Stay Safe in the Summer Heat

RIO GRANDE VALLEY- With the summer heat not going anywhere soon, officials with the National Weather Service are offering tips to stay safe.

So far, more than 13 heat advisories have been issued this year.

Warning coordination meteorologist, Barry Goldsmith tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS heat and humidity combined can be deadly.

"When you're going out with children in the car, or pets, make sure you know where they are and they're coming inside and back out with you," Goldsmith said.

CHANNEL 5'S Cecilia Gutierrez sat down with Goldsmith to get more heat safety advice.
