Palmview Mayor to Return to Office After Election Questioned

PALMVIEW – The newly elected Palmview mayor resumes his office duties after his election was questioned.
A judge has ruled that Mayor Ricardo Villareal was properly elected.
The state initially voided his election because Villareal’s name was in a section of the ballot which only listed unopposed elected candidates.
Voters had no say in that section of the ballot.
Even though Villareal ran unchallenged, under the Texas Election Code, he still needed at least one vote to win.
Villareal filed a lawsuit against the city of Palmview.
After the official ruling, Villareal is expected to resume his duties as mayor and attend the next city meeting.
