Plans Underway to Clear Arroyo Colorado Drainage System

WESLACO – Plans are underway to clear one of the Rio Grande Valley’s main flood drainage systems.
The International Boundary and Water Commission is proceeding with these plans at the Arroyo Colorado after studying the floods this past June.
The drainage system starts up in the Mission area and takes the water all the way to the Gulf.
After studying the effects of the June floods, the IBWC decided it was necessary to remove vegetation and sediment from the river to increase the flow.
KRGV’s Christian von Preysing explains the IBWC will be discussing its study and details for the plan at a meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting will take place at 3 p.m. at the IBWC Office in Mercedes.
