MCALLEN – President Donald Trump’s first visit to the Rio Grande Valley was filled with cheers and protests, from the time he arrived to when he departed.

Trump landed in McAllen at about 12:40 p.m. on Thursday for discussions on border security and to push for $5.7 billion in funding for a border wall.

Since democrats and republicans aren’t in agreeance for this funding, the government remains shut down.

President Trump attended a briefing at a Border Patrol station for these discussions.

He met with some of these federal workers affected by this shutdown.

KRGV’s Kristine Galvan reports live from McCreery Aviation with the details of this visit.
