'Texas Walks' Kicks Off

Brownsville - An effort to get Texans moving has kicked off.
'It's Time Texas' is teaming up with the City of Brownsville to share one common goal; promote healthier lifestyles in the RGV.
"Walking 10 minutes everyday actually improves overall health," said Marco Javier, with 'It's Time Texas.' "We're trying to motivate people to start getting out there and start walking and changing their lifestyle basically."
'It's Time Texas'  is a new statewide initiative. It encourages people to walk for just 10 minutes a day. 
"We know that overall the state of Texas. Two-thirds of the population is obese and here in the Valley 80% are overweight and obese," said Esmeralda Flores, Wellness Manager for the City of Brownsville.
Javier and Flores says 10 minutes of walking a day can decrease diabetes and lead to an increased life expectancy.
