WESLACO – The wife of the Department of Public Safety trooper who was shot last month released a message updating on her husband’s condition.

Yvonne Sanchez says Moises Sanchez is listed in stable condition and has been showing little improvement every day.

She says Moises' “vitals remain strong;” and adds he is expected to start rehabilitation soon.

Yvonne released a message in part:

“We have a long journey ahead, but we have unshakeable faith and trust that God will be at our side every step of the way.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support during this difficult time. The children and I are humbled and extremely grateful for the outpouring of support for Moses and every member of our family. The people of the Rio Grande Valley have shown just how incredibly special they are as we have witnessed this community band together to support us, Texas DPS and the entire law enforcement community. We also want to say a special thank you to the DHR Neuro ICU doctors, nurses and staff who are providing exceptional care for Moses. You truly are extraordinary human beings, and we feel very blessed that Moses is under your care.”

Trooper Sanchez is in the hospital after suffering severe injuries from a shooting Apr. 6.

Sanchez responded to a crash scene, where the driver, 24-year-old Victor Alejandro Godinez, fled on foot.

The trooper was shot by Godinez upon locating him.

A manhunt for Godinez ensued following the shooting.

Godinez was captured and charged with three counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer.
