SAN JUAN – A community in San Juan is being affected by a strong odor coming from an exposed septic tank.

One neighbor, Sanjuanita Alvarez, says the persistent bad smell is coming from her neighbor’s house.

Alvarez says several years ago, the city came by when all the neighbors were on septic tanks and connected the neighborhood to the city sewer lines.

“They sent people to break our septic tanks, and my neighbor has two septic tanks,” she says.

She says the city never took care of the second septic tank, causing the smell to travel through the neighborhood.

San Juan City Manager, Benjamin Arjona, says it has been several years since the septic tanks were transitioned.

Arjona says it’s the first time he’s heard about it, but will look into the matter.
