FORT WORTH The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley baseball team wrapped up an eight-game road trip with a 6-2 loss to No. 19 TCU on Tuesday at Lupton Field.

UTRGV (15-10) opened the game strong, as junior Andy Atwood singled, senior Anthony Gomez doubled and junior Conrado Diaz lifted a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.

TCU (16-7) responded against junior Nick Hollas (0-4) in the bottom of the inning, though, as Jake Guenther hit a three-run home run over the right field wall to make the score 3-1.

UTRGV got one of those runs back in the second on a two-out double by sophomore Jacob Hirsh.

Hirsh finished a career-best 3-for-3. Gomez went 2-for-4.

That was it until the fifth, when Alex Isola came up with a two-out, two-run single to push TCU’s lead to 5-2.

Then, in the seventh, Zach Humphreys added an RBI-double to make the score 6-2.

Josh Watson finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored for TCU.

Spencer Arrighetti (2-0) pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the win.

UTRGV opens up a six-game home stand with the first of three against Northern Colorado on Friday at 7pm.
