District realignment always shakes things up for all sports in high school, football perhaps more than any other.

There were some big changes to the landscape this year.

Realignment brings a new twist to high school football every two years. In the process, it creates some new rivalries and opportunities for teams to improve their playoff hopes.

Here is a look, district by district, for 6A and 5A schools.

In District 32-6A, Brownsville Hanna is out and PSJA North and PSJA are in, which adds two great programs to a district that already had some of the Rio Grande Valley's toughest teams.

In District 31-6A, Edinburg Vela replaces PSJA. Now all four Edinburg schools are in the same district alongside Weslaco and La Joya.

In 15-5A Division 1, Brownsville Hanna comes down from 6A and Corpus Christi Carroll moves up. This district loses too many teams to list.

PSJA North, PSJA Memorial, Donna High School and Donna North are all gone. So what used to be a nine-team district is now a seven-team district.

In District 16-5A Division 1, Edinburg Vela and Juarez-Lincoln are out. Donna North and PSJA Memorial are in.

The Sabercats, who were 13-1 in this district over the last two years, made the move up to 6A. So one of the best teams from this district is gone.

In District 15-5A Division 2, Edcouch-Elsa moves down to 4A. They were the district champs just two years ago.

PSJA Southwest is also out and Donna High School joins this district alongside two Corpus Christi area schools.

In District 16-5A Division 2, Juarez-Lincoln, PSJA Southwest and Laredo Cigarroa join the Sharyland schools along with Mission Veterans and Roma, while Alice is out.

That's how things will change for your 6A and 5A teams this football season.
