The Los Fresnos Falcons are chasing history this season, looking to win a third straight district title.

Senior quarterback Evan McChesney leads the offense after spending three years learning behind former starter Robert Pineda.

"I feel great and confident being behind Robert the last three years. I just played a good role in being in his shoes," McChesney said. "I'm very blessed to have this moment and I'm just ready to get out there on Friday night."

Falcons head coach David Cantu praised McChesney's patience while waiting for his opportunity.

"We're super excited for him because I really feel like most schools he would've started as a sophomore at quarterback but he was very patient and learned a lot from Robert and here he is," Coach Cantu said.

"He brings a lot of energy and a lot of juice. He's super confident in his abilities so that oozes off to everybody else. His experience is not just football, basketball. We put a lot on him since his freshman year and he embraces the challenges," Cantu added said.

The Falcons defense also lost a lot off of last year's district title team, but Coach Cantu remains confident in the unit, especially up front.

"Not as many starters on defense but we have what feels like our best defensive line since I've been here," he said.

The Falcons also face a new challenge in District 32-6A. The PSJA North Raiders, one of the best programs in the Rio Grande Valley, are joining the district this season.

Senior wide receiver and safety Ryan Prepejchal said the team is ready for the competition.

"I respect those guys. They're the top dogs of the RGV. We're going to respect them but we're going to come out and bring the best every game no matter who, especially non-district. We're looking forward to some great battles," Prepejchal said. "We know we're going to get into some close games, they're going to make plays, we're going to make plays that's just football. We have to adjust and keep on fighting."

Cantu said he welcomes the challenge the new district brings.

"I love our district and it's going to be super exciting and at the end of the day whoever the district champion is there you have to give them kudos," he said.
