San Juan, TX (KRGV) — LUPE held a voter caravan in San Juan to encourage people to head to the polls.
The group drove from its San Juan office to the San Juan Memorial Library, which is one of the polling locations in Hidalgo County.
"For a lot of people, voting is not a habit. We have a low turnout, historically speaking, and we want to make sure that people have that opportunity to see that voting is something that they can practice regularly with friends, with family and people that they trust," Director of Civic Engagement at LUPE Votes Michael Mireles said.
Mireles said the group wants first time voters and people who need assistance to know their resources.
"We print people's sample ballots so they know ahead of time who is going to be on their ballots," Mireles said. "We also make sure that folks are in fact registered to vote. maybe sometimes people think that they are and then they show up and they're not."
