The Southland Conference announced their preseason polls for men's and women's basketball.
The UTRGV Vaqueros basketball programs both finished with solid rankings in the polls.
The women's team finished third, only behind Lamar and Stephen F. Austin.
While the Vaqueros do need to make up for losing their two top scorers, other teams in the conference are also battling through significant turnover. Namely teams that lost their head coaches like McNeese and Nicholls.
The men's basketball team with new head coach Brandon Chambers finished fifth in the preseason poll. McNeese finished as the top team in the poll once again, seeking their fourth straight conference championship this coming season.
Both Vaqueros basketball teams start the season on November 2nd at home in Edinburg.
