HARLINGEN – A two-month long investigation into a string of auto thefts across Harlingen landed two men behind bars. The pair is facing nearly a dozen charges.

The two men were arrested on Friday. David Martinez, 26, and Juan Francisco Baez-Zuniga, 39, are each facing 10 counts of theft of a motor vehicle and engaging in organized criminal activity.

Harlingen police said the duo was targeting Chrysler products, specifically Dodge pickups, Jeep Wranglers and Jeep Cherokees.

The thefts happened in different areas throughout Harlingen over the past two months.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS first reported about the thefts last month. At the time, the department said the crooks weren’t leaving any traces of forced entry.

Most of the vehicles were stolen from homes, apartment complexes and businesses.

Authorities are expected to release more information about the case.
