Alamo, TX (KRGV) — The city of Alamo is constructing a new public safety building with $2.4 million in federal funds helping pay for the project.

The project will cost about $20 million. The rest of the money came from bonds and grants.

This will be the city's first public safety building since 1950. An inventory in 2023 showed the police department needed upgrades.

“We’re going to have it fully staffed with our police, our special investigation units, our municipal court, and it’s going to be able to hold over 21 dogs as well. So they have dog kennels, state-of-the-art,” Alamo Mayor J.R. Garza said. "It’s all modern. It’s the newest kind of facility that you see nowadays.”

Construction should wrap up in six months.
