HIDALGO – Local authorities say the number of fraudulent vehicles purchased and sold in Mexico are on the rise.

Hidalgo County Vehicle Fraud Investigators say they are seeing more fraudulent titles coming in from the U.S. ports-of-entry.

Chief Investigator Cesar Solis explained that many people who attempt to register their vehicle, find out they were given a fraudulent title.

"They may even give you a fake name, fake address, fake information, so it's a risk. I know the vehicle might be cheap over there but you’re risking more than what you’re going to get," he says.

Solis says residents should always double-check the title with the county before making a purchase.
