EDINBURG – A Rio Grande Valley store clerk is recovering after being hit against his head with a fire extinguisher during a robbery.

Around 4 a.m. Friday, two men walked into a Stripes convenience store on Closner Boulevard and Monte Cristo Road.

Edinburg police say the employee suffered serious injuries and the suspects only grabbed $48. One of the suspects was identified as 19-year-old Cruz Angel Escobar.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the same pair hit up other spots. This time they had a possible third suspect, a getaway driver.

Surveillance footage reveals the thieves were last seen in a dark gray Dodge Charger.
