BROWNSVILLE – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board issued a voluntary water use restriction.

Customers are being asked to watch their water usage.

There are currently no mandatory restrictions but BPUB officials ask that people water their yards and plants early in the morning or after 7 p.m. and only twice a week.

They also ask that people reduce the amount of water being used for nonessential purposes, like washing paved areas.

Pumping water from resacas isn’t being restricted.

The Stage 1 voluntary water use restriction is issued every year in May to prepare for the months ahead.
