Brownsville, TX (KRGV) — Brownsville Metro is upgrading seven bus stops across the city to make them safer for drivers and riders.

One of the stops getting work is in front of Hanna High School. Brownsville Metro says the current setup creates safety problems.

"It makes it unsafe for the driver and for the bus," Brownsville Metro Transit and Mobility Planner Octavio Salazar said. "So, with this new project, it's going to make a complete bus curb cut where the bus will be put in completely into the bus curb where the bus will be able to pull in completely."

The city will also add a new three-seat shelter with lighting at the stop.

Work on this particular stop is expected to cost between $50,000 and $60,000. Bids go out in May with construction expected to wrap up next fall.
