UPDATE: On Sunday, Oct. 11, beginning at 8:30 a.m., all three Cameron County beach accesses were reopened to the public.

Previous version below:

Cameron County, TX (KRGV) — Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. ordered a temporary closure for three county beach access areas because high tides from a recent storm front created unsafe beach conditions, according to Cameron County.

The closure took effect at 8 a.m. Oct. 10. It covers County Beach Access No. 4, County Beach Access No. 5/E.K. Atwood Park Pavilion and County Beach Access No. 6.

Cameron County said the beaches are closed to incoming vehicle and foot traffic until further notice because high tides left the sand hard to drive on.

County beach access areas on South Padre Island, including Isla Blanca Park and Andy Bowie Park, remain open until further notice.

Cameron County asked people to use caution at the beaches, follow authorities patrolling the beaches and check the Flag Advisory System for current surf conditions.

The county directed questions to the Cameron County Parks and Recreation Department at 956-761-3701.
