MERCEDES – Concerns arise about the safety of students being dropped off in flooded streets in Mercedes.

The neighborhood at 8 ½ north and Argus Avenue is still soaked with water.

A school bus moved into the area after Mercedes Independant School District resumed classes Wednesday.

A student got off the school bus and walked through flood waters to get to her home.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke with the Superintendent of Mercedes ISD, Filimena Leo, about how the district plans for scenarios like these.

Leo says they don’t have specific flood policy for school busses, but instruct their drivers to drop-off students in a safe manner.

The school district says the students went back to school to make up state assignments.
