McAllen, TX (KRGV) — U.S. Senate Democratic candidate James Talarico held a virtual town hall at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Edinburg campus.

Talarico is running against Republican Ken Paxton, who attended the same forum held by the same organization in Fort Worth on Monday.

Both candidates fielded questions on workforce, cross-border trade and the cost of living.

Channel 5 News spoke to potential voters about what they want from their next senator.

"I think we need to, as a community, come together. A lot of people do believe in what ICE is doing, but I think there has to be a humane way to do things. Despite whatever you believe about immigration, they're human beings at the end of the day," UTRGV senior Veronica Rodriguez said.

A planned visit to a restaurant in Edinburg was cancelled.

Talarico has challenged Paxton to a debate. There is still no word on whether Paxton will agree to it.
