The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros football team won its inaugural game, beating Sul Ross State 66-0 on Saturday.

The Vaqueros offense was electrifying all night long, completing 96.3% of their passes on the night.

Eddie Lee Marburger, who only played the first half of the game, threw for 365 yards and five touchdowns against the Lobos. Wide receiver Xayvion Noland totaled 178 yards in the game with two touchdowns.

On defense, the Vaqueros were just as stellar. UTRGV held Sul Ross State to just 20 total yards in the first half. Abdon Mata, Alijah Prosser, Jaden Pettway, and Ian Box each finished the game with a sack on the night.

The game was held at the Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium in front of 12,726 fans inside the stadium, according to a news release.

The Vaqueros’ next game is set for Saturday, Sept. 6, at 6 p.m. at Prairie View A&M. They return home the following the Saturday for a matchup with Langston.
