EDINBURG - Security changes are underway at some Edinburg businesses following the shootings in Ohio and El Paso.

The Shoppes of Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg are increasing security; they want to be proactive when engaging an active shooter.

Robert Hanewich is the owner of the shopping center and Jesse Cruz is the owner of the security company who patrols the area.

Hanewich and Cruz went to an active shooting training in Edinburg for employees and business owners.

Hanewich says he's going to make sure there is better communication by using WhatsApp mass text messaging.

The two owners tell us there are more aware after they learned to defend themselves, their employees and the customers.
