The Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees approved on Wednesday a contract for Dr. Angela Dominguez as superintendent of schools.

Dominguez's contract sets her salary at $335,000.

Dominguez begins her role with the district on Sept. 1, 2026. The board named her the lone finalist for the position on Aug. 3, 2026, following a comprehensive search, according to a news release from the district.

She comes to Edinburg CISD from Donna ISD, a Hidalgo County district of approximately 13,000 students, where she served as superintendent since October 2021.

She was named the 2024-2025 Region One Superintendent of the Year and was recognized nationally as a Superintendent to Watch by the National School Public Relations Association.

"Dr. Dominguez has a proven record of raising student achievement and managing public dollars with discipline," Edinburg CISD Board President Xavier Salinas said in a statement. "The board is confident she is the right leader for Edinburg CISD and we are proud to welcome her to our community."

Dominguez brings more than 30 years of experience in public education as a teacher, principal, district administrator, deputy superintendent, and superintendent.

"I am deeply honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve the students, families, staff, and community of Edinburg CISD," Dominguez said in a statement. "This is a district with a proud tradition, tremendous people, and a strong foundation to build upon. I believe our best work happens when we are united around what matters most — our students. I look forward to listening, learning, and working alongside our board, employees, families and community as we build on Edinburg's strengths and continue moving forward."
