Pharr, TX (KRGV) — An Edinburg roofing company is offering free tarp installations to homeowners with damaged roofs ahead of incoming rain.

Arely and Erick Arellano, owners of Quality Home Innovations, are working to help as many people as possible before the incoming weekend rain arrives.

"It's important to prepare beforehand because again, any little leak can cause damage all the way down to your foundation," Arely Arellano said.

Arely says roof repairs can be costly.

"So an estimated cost on average, considering an average-sized home here in the Valley, I would say is around $15,000 to $20,000," Arellano said.

Knowing many families can't afford that, they put out a call on social media offering to cover damaged areas with tarps at no cost.

"From the afternoon until now, we've been getting a lot of calls, a lot of messages. So, we're trying to get as many people as we can before the rainfall," Arellano said.

Pharr homeowner Marina Rodriguez is one of the people who called. She tried to handle it herself but realized it was too big a job to do alone.

"I bought a tarp and put it up halfway. I got that far because I didn't have enough to cover everything and I'm still missing a big piece," Rodriguez said.

Arely says the tarps are only a temporary fix.

"The tarps are just to protect it from any rainfall that's coming. So we cover the area that's damaged, but we'd like to go a little bit over it just to make sure it covers more than expected," Arellano said.

Arely says this may be the first time they've offered the service for free, but it won't be the last.

"We've been getting a lot of positive reinforcement, but at the end of the day, it's not really so much about what the clients are saying or what the community is saying. To us it's more something that we're doing it out of our hearts," Arellano said.
