Escobares, TX (KRGV) — The Escobares Police Department is investigating after a body was found floating in the Rio Grande.

Officers were called out around 1:58 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, to an area near the river to assist U.S. Border Patrol and the Starr County Sheriff's Office.

When officers arrived, Border Patrol agents and sheriff's deputies said that Border Patrol was conducting boat patrol operations on the river when they spotted what appeared to be a human body floating in the water.

Escobares police said there are no signs of suspected foul play at this time and an autopsy has been ordered.
