Former Cameron County DA employee accused of bringing drugs into jail
A former employee with the Cameron County District Attorney's Office and a man were arrested on drug-related charges connected to a correctional facility, according to a news release.
Claudia Garcia and Robert Johnathon Vargas were arrested and taken to county jail on Aug. 28.
Garcia was identified as a former employee of the DA's office. She is facing charges of manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance and bringing a prohibited substance or item into a correctional facility.
"My office investigators assisted with the investigation and arrest of Garcia. Her case will now be presented to the grand jury for indictment," Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz said.
Vargas faces a charge of bringing a prohibited substance or item into a correctional facility.
Both are pending magistration that is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 28.
