Funeral services for fallen soldier from Brownsville announced

BROWNSVILLE – Services for a fallen Rio Grande Valley soldier have been announced.

Pfc. Miguel Angel Villalon, 21, was killed in Afghanistan Jan. 11 by a roadside bomb. Villalon was posthumously promoted to specialist, according to Lt. Col. Mike Burns, a public affairs officer with the 82nd Airborne Division.

The family says visitation and funeral services will be open to the community to pay their respects.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Brownsville Event Center on 1 Events Center Boulevard.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Brownsville Event Center, followed by the burial at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Villalon was living in Illinois, but attended schools in the Brownsville Independent School District from 2004 to 2013.

Villalon’s body is expected to arrive to the Valley on Thursday in Brownsville.
