WESLACO - Health officials are warning residents over genetic testing fraud, targeting Medicare recipients.

Officials with the Texas Senior Medicare Patrol say residents shouldn’t give out their Medicare number to anyone that isn’t their doctor.

They say across the country representatives with genetic testing companies are offering "free" tests to beneficiaries.

All these representatives ask for is a Medicare number.

Texas SMP officials say with the number, companies can steal identities and falsely bill Medicare.
