Three places of worship in Hidalgo County became targets of vandalism – all within hours of each other early Tuesday morning. A woman is in custody in connection to at least one of the cases.

The houses of worship targeted were the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle in San Juan, Temple Emanuel in McAllen and Shri Nanak Hindu Temple in Edinburg.

Priest Kalyana Kumar at Shri Nanak Hindu Temple was disturbed first time in the 10 years he’s been a priest at the temple. He arrived in the morning to find the front gates marked with blue graffiti.

The director for the San Juan shrine, Father Jorge Gomez, says it isn’t the first time the basilica has been vandalized. However, it was for Temple Emanuel.

As of now, the woman arrested is only linked to the McAllen case.
