House Speaker Mike Johnson calls RGV Congressional seats as key to House majority
McAllen, TX (KRGV) — House Speaker Mike Johnson said South Texas voters will decide which party gets the majority in Congress during a stop in McAllen.
Johnson campaigned for Republicans running for Congress in three districts in the Rio Grande Valley. He said 22 congressional seats could go either way, and three of them are in the Valley.
"Twenty-two seats that will decide the fate of the republic," House Speaker Mike Johnson said. “Of those 22 seats, three of them are standing right behind me right now.”
Incumbent Monica De La Cruz is trying to keep her job against Democratic candidate Bobby Pulido. Henry Cuellar represents Starr County, and Republican Tano Tijerina is challenging him.
Vicente Gonzalez is being challenged by Republican Eric Flores. One district is held by a Republican, and two are held by Democrats.
All three races are considered tight and are part of a larger fight between Republicans and Democrats. Johnson also said Monica De La Cruz's seat is one everyone in the nation is watching.
