Hundreds of troops head to the Valley for new border operation
Rio Grande Valley, TX (KRGV) — Joint Task Force-Southern Border is sending hundreds of U.S. service members and equipment to the Rio Grande Valley as part of a new border security operation, according to a news release from U.S. Northern Command.
The military announced Operation Unified Resolve on Oct. 2, 2026. The effort is part of a larger ongoing operation called Operation Ardent Vanguard.
The operation aims to increase patrol capacity, reinforce key areas and improve monitoring and detection capabilities. It will also strengthen security at critical locations in support of the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
JTF-SB said the repositioning of troops and equipment is meant to strengthen border security operations and increase the military's ability to respond to threats. It will also support federal law enforcement partners working along the Rio Grande.
Operation Unified Resolve is part of the broader Operation Ardent Vanguard, through which JTF-SB continues to provide military support to protect U.S. sovereignty at the southern border.
