A wildfire that burned over 2,000 acres in Kenedy County is now fully contained, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

The Sandy wildfire started on Saturday, and multiple fire departments from Hidalgo County responded to the blaze that burned 2,003 acres.

As of Monday evening, the fire was reported as active but 100% contained.

No injuries were reported and no structures were destroyed in the fire that burned between Highway 281 and Interstate-69C.

A spokesperson for the Texas A&M Forest Service said lightning is believed to have been the cause of the fire.
