The Cameron County Sheriff's Office arrested a Los Fresnos woman on Wednesday who is accused of smuggling drugs into a Texas state jail.

The Cameron County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Board of Criminal Justice Office of Inspector General investigated and determined that Maria Guadalupe Nelson allegedly coordinated the delivery of narcotics to someone incarcerated at a Texas state jail, according to a news release.

The release did not say which jail the drugs were being delivered to.

Authorities issued arrest warrants for Nelson on charges of bringing prohibited substances into a correctional facility and delivery of a controlled substance.

Nelson was taken to the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center, where she was booked on the outstanding charges.

“The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working alongside our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to investigate criminal activity and assist in bringing those responsible to justice,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “The sheriff’s office will continue to provide its resources and support to our law enforcement partners while working to protect the safety and security of our communities and correctional facilities.”
