San Juan, TX (KRGV) — La Union del Pueblo Entero is hosting a cookout aimed at pushing back against recent immigration enforcement efforts in the Rio Grande Valley.

The "ICE Out Cookout" is happening Saturday, Sept. 26, at LUPE's office in San Juan at 1601 US-83 BUS.

The event starts at 4 p.m.

Organizers say the event comes in response to recent actions against teenagers and ongoing deportations.

"[We want them to] walk out with a strategy on how to protect families and how to know their rights, how to react when situations like this happen when they witness them, and how to tell their story if they have been affected," LUPE Director of Communication Luis Castillo said.

LUPE encourages anyone planning to attend to share stories, learn to organize, and join immigration committees.
