Monte Alto, TX (KRGV) — The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office charged a 46-year-old male Monte Alto Independent School District school nurse with two counts of indecency with a child following a months-long investigation.

Ruben Del Toro faces two second-degree felony charges. He was arraigned and bond was set at $100,000. On the Monte Alto ISD website, he is listed as a district nurse.

The investigation began when a child's mother contacted the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office and reported that the child said a male school nurse had touched the child inappropriately during school hours.

The child also told the mother that similar incidents had occurred several times over the course of the year.

Investigators determined there was enough probable cause to charge Del Toro.

Monte Alto ISD said once it found out about the allegations, Del Toro was suspended right away.

"The safety and well-being of our students remain the district's highest priority. Every employee is held to the same standards of conduct and the district is committed to applying its policies consistently and impartially," Monte Alto ISD said.

The district said it will keep working with authorities while protecting student privacy and respecting the ongoing investigation.
