EDINBURG – Edinburg police are trying out a new tool to help them better respond when people need help.

Chief Cesar Torres says the high-tech 9-1-1 system provides a new element for police officers, the ability to live stream.

"The caller calls 9-1-1, our operators take the call and they'll report an emergency," explained Torres. "We'll send them a link. All they have to do is start the link, start the video and point their phone at the threat or at the incident and we'll be able to see live stream of what's going on."

Torres adds his department is testing out the system this week.
