Pioneer volleyball powers into the playoffs after historic district season
The Pioneer Lady Diamondbacks are gearing up for the postseason.
The team is set to take on Gregory-Portland on Thursday night at Kaufer High School.
"We're really excited, we're hoping to make a really deep run," Pioneer senior outside hitter Elle Hill said. "I think that this is one of the strongest teams Pioneer has ever had."
The Lady Diamondbacks are coming off their second straight district title. Not only that, but the team finished district play with a perfect record for the first time in program history. One final back-and-forth five set thriller with their rivals at Sharyland officially sealed the district title back on October 20.
The team posted an overall record of 38-2 throughout non-district play, district play, and tournament play.
The team hasn't lost since the end of August against McAllen Memorial in a five-set battle. Since then, the team has been on a dominant 21-game winning streak. In their 40 games so far this year, they've only dropped a total of nine sets.
"Especially with five seniors, it's such a special feeling," Hill added. "We're just excited to see how far we can go."
"All of us are super excited and we think that we can make it very far with this group that we have," Lady Diamondbacks senior libero Bella Cano said. "Coach Helle has done a great job running our practices very serious and being loud and everything and just having fun."
The game against Gregory-Portland in the bi-district round is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
