Progreso mayor, two candidates face lawsuit over ballot eligibility ahead of November election
Three candidates running for office in Progreso face a lawsuit seeking to remove them from the November ballot.
Mayor Hugo Gamboa, candidate Norberto Rangel and Commissioner Stephanie Alegria are all being sued by their opponents.
The lawsuit alleges that Gamboa and Rangel failed to pay filing fees when submitting their applications — a requirement under city ordinance. It also claims Alegria omitted mandatory details from her paperwork.
Their opponents are asking a judge to remove them from the ballot while the case is being heard.
A hearing date has not yet been set.
