Port Isabel, TX (KRGV) — Point Isabel Independent School District opened Tarpon Stadium to the public for the first time to watch Monday's Starship launch.

In the past, only students filled the stands to watch the rocket take off just across Laguna Madre. This time, the community joined in as well.

The stadium has an unobstructed view toward the launch site at Starbase, with the rocket launching just miles away.

Superintendent Teri Capistran said the event brings excitement and anticipation from viewers.

"Then all of a sudden you see it, you hear it and then you feel it and that's where everything just goes quiet because truly everyone is just in awe of what's happening right here in our very backyard," Superintendent Teri Capistran said.

Going forward, Point Isabel ISD says Tarpon Stadium will be open to the public for launches.

Isla Blanca Park also draws a crowd on launch days. A local business set up near the park said launch day brings a major boom in business.
