HARLINGEN – The American Red Cross of South Texas is gearing up for Tropical Depression Harvey.

Executive director Danella Hughes said they are activating shelters in case of flooding

Families looking for a safe place to stay can count on a cot, food, clothing and water if they chose to stay at a Red Cross shelter. The shelters can be found in Raymondville, Los Fresnos and Brownsville.

Hughes said volunteers are also ready to assist if needed.

“Right now, we have about 200 volunteers working the shelters. We also have disaster volunteers, disaster health volunteers, so they are all incorporated to make sure that every family gets the services that they need, in any capacity that we have,” said Hughes.

Hughes added the Red Cross is always in need of more volunteers. If anyone would like to get involved, they can contact the Red Cross at 956-423-0523.
