RGV Wrestling Club holding back to school event in Rio Grande City
A wrestling club in Rio Grande City is holding a back to school event at the end of August to help raise money for its program.
RGV Wrestling Club is organizing the event with the help of wrestling coach Ron Pratt. It comes after an issue with the wrestling booster club's checking account last year left the program short on funds.
"RGV wrestling club out in San Juan with Rick Fernandez decided to put on a benefit for our program to help replenish some of those funds that were lost," Pratt said. "It's gonna be a folk style tournament as opposed to freestyle of Greco and we're gonna have a lot of fun. We're gonna roll out the mats and let kids get a back to school roll around and have a lot of fun hopefully we get a lot of participation from the Valley wrestlers."
The event is open to anyone wrestling this year. Weigh-ins start at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 29, 2026.
