SEBASTIAN - A Sebastian resident is looking for more law enforcement presence on his street.

He wants to know what the county is doing to help.

Armando Gonzales spent all 69 years of his life on Martin Cavazos Street and he says for as long as he can remember, something important has been in short supply in this area.

Sebastian does not have a police department and he says this means he is dependent on the sheriff's department.

Gonzales says he would like more help from Willacy County.

"More for the protection of the people. Especially we have disasters and emergency, somebody we can depend on", says Gonzalez.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to Willacy County Judge Aurelio Guerra to see if the county is budgeting for law enforcement.

He says the budget is getting help from a transfer approved last month by the county commission,  more than 800 thousand dollars, received from the El Valle Detention Center reopened last summer.
