Appeals Court Upholds ‘Fajita Bandit’ Sentence

BROWNSVILLE – An appeal court upheld the 50 year prison term for a Cameron County man.

Gilberto Escamilla, dubbed "the fajita bandit," was sentenced last year following his guilty plea.

According to Cameron County district attorney investigators, Escamilla stole more than a million dollars’ worth of fajitas.

The theft committed over nine years during his employment at the Derrell-Hester Juvenile Detention Center in San Benito.
