Social Media Threats Made in Harlingen were Towards Mosque, Synagogues

HARLINGEN – Cameron County authorities confirm the social media threat made by an 18-year-old Harlingen man were targeted at mosques and synagogues.

The threats were made on Twitter.

Joel Hayden Schrimsher is accused of using social media to make violent threats against religious groups.

The FBI worked along Harlingen investigators and the Cameron County District Attorney's Office to search his home.

According to investigators, several chemical compounds used to make explosives were also found at Schrimsher’s home.

The 18-year-old remains in custody.
