Cameron County, TX (KRGV) — SpaceX's 14 Starship launch drew crowds to South Padre Island and opened new viewing spots across Cameron County.

Point Isabel ISD opened Tarpon Stadium to the public for the first time to watch the launch. The stadium had previously only been used by students to watch the flights.

The district said it plans to keep opening the stadium to the community for future launches.

The launch was also the first orbital flight for Starship. SpaceX also deployed its most advanced Starlinks yet during the flight.

On South Padre Island, businesses near popular viewing spots saw a boost in sales. Jetti's Bait Stand Manager Jose Garcia said a launch can quickly change what would otherwise be a slow morning.

"Probably like triples, stuff like that," Garcia said.

The business added items specifically for launch days.

"We have breakfast tacos, coffee, which we normally don't have, but we do for the launch in the mornings," Garcia said.

Garcia said watching every Starship flight still hasn't gotten old.

"It feels good. You can feel the energy, the power. It's a lot of energy coming off from that rocket. But it feels great. Something out of this world," Garcia said.

Both the district and local businesses are already looking ahead to the next flight. Point Isabel ISD plans to open Tarpon Stadium again and Garcia expects another launch to bring more customers to his window.
