The Transportation Security Agency, known as the TSA, was created after the 9/11 terror attacks.

Now, the agency employs approximately 60,000 workers who screen passengers and baggage daily.

TSA officials noted that despite advancements in screening technology, core officer training has remained consistent since the agency's launch nearly 25 years ago.

"You're building that image library over years and years of experience and you may look at an image of an object you're familiar with and that experience you have over the years is telling you that doesn't look like it should look like, and trusting that gut and saying, 'Hey, can someone come and take another look?'" TSA Regional spokesperson Eric Guthier said.

Experts say that ability to speak up when something feels wrong is now considered a critical part of the TSA's security strategy.
